Balmoral Bakery is an old-school neighbourhood bakery in Clementi, listed by food guides as operating since 1965. Its chicken pie, filled with chicken, carrot, potato and peas, is one of the cheapest you will find in Singapore: about $1.80 when LadyIronChef visited in January 2024.

Why include a $1.80 pie in a best-of guide?

A best-of guide that only lists $15 cafe pies misses how most Singaporeans actually eat chicken pie: warm, from a paper bag, from the bakery downstairs. Balmoral is the clearest example of that tradition still trading, and it appeared in Miss Tam Chiak’s 2019 blind taste test alongside far pricier pies.
