The Central Region is where most of Singapore’s pie sellers cluster, because it is where office workers, shoppers and tourists are. You can eat your way from a heartland-priced pie to a $17 levain-crust pot pie without leaving the city.
Where to buy a chicken pie in the city
For an old-school chicken pie, the main names are the Don pies at Chicken Pie Kitchen, which Don Pie founder Chef Don Lim co-founded and where the pies are baked today under the DonChef name, and the halal-certified Polar kiosks. Chicken Pie Kitchen’s flagship restaurant is at 39 Tyrwhitt Road in Jalan Besar, about a ten-minute walk from Farrer Park, Lavender or Jalan Besar MRT (drivers will want these parking and MRT notes for the Tyrwhitt Road flagship), and its pies-only kiosks are at Wisma Atria (linked to Orchard MRT) and Tiong Bahru Plaza. Polar has kiosks at Raffles Place and Bugis Junction, among many others. Tiong Bahru Bakery, in the estate it is named after, adds a sun-dried tomato chicken pie and a chilli crab pie.
Where to buy sweet pies in central Singapore
Windowsill Pies sells whole sweet pies from a kiosk at Great World City, and Elijah Pies has two central cafes, at Tanjong Pagar Plaza and King George’s Avenue. For a single portion on the go, Anri Bakery’s Aomori Apple Pie at Takashimaya basement 2 costs $7. PS.Cafe, with outlets at Great World, Raffles City and Paragon, is the sit-down option for apple pie with ice cream.
Gourmet and seasonal pies
Marymount Bakehouse on Race Course Road makes pies with a sourdough crust, including a drunken chicken pot pie with a black truffle crust. At Christmas, Burnt Ends Bakery in Dempsey sells old-style minced pies made with beef.
What about Toa Payoh?
Toa Payoh sits in the Central Region, and many people still link it with Chef Don Lim, who sold crab bee hoon and later his pies from Toa Payoh North between about 2015 and 2021, a chapter told in full in The Toa Payoh Years on originaldon.com. Those Toa Payoh stalls have closed, and we have no current pie specialist in Toa Payoh in our directory. The nearest Don pie outlet is the AMK Hub kiosk, three MRT stops north on the North-South Line; the Tyrwhitt Road flagship is a short ride south.
